For about the last month I have been playing "party stylist" for my sister in laws 50th birthday party. She requested the look of Kate Spade and wanted the theme for the night to be, "She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes!" So Kate Spade, right!? She wanted the tables to be beautiful and she wanted a dessert table...but nothing fancy! How can you do Kate Spade with out being FANCY?! My thought...well, I guess we could go simple. Cover the tables with black and white stripe overlays and add some flowers...Done! Makes my life easy since I'm always way behind schedule. BUT, this just isn't me! I did tell myself that I needed to keep it some what simple because I didn't have my time with running the business, but I wanted the evening to be special and beautiful. One thing lead to another and I had all these ideas running through my head...we can do this, oh, and what about doing that, and OMG! this would look awesome!! Again, I had no time for this!! One side of my brain was saying, stop making more work for yourself! The other side was saying, oh what the heck, that won't take much time and I'm superwoman! And, my thought was, we will just rent everything! Good idea! NOT!! Have you ever tried to rent a dessert table back drop? I'm in the wrong business, because I could not find one...at least not the kind I was looking for. So, after a month of no sleep, this is how the party turned out....
This was the party favors. Each box was filled with chocolates. I die cut two separate tags using black and white striped paper and gold paper. I printed thank you tags on cardstock and punched them out using a paper punch. I kept them simple for a classic Kate Spade look.
She wanted something with her "sparkle" theme for the flowers. Have you seen those gold script cake toppers? This is my take on those. I used my Cameo by Silhouette to cut out the phrases for each of the center pieces using gold glitter cardstock. I even reversed the image so the back side was also gold glitter paper. I had to cut 26 of these!! Can you say tedious! But I LOVED them, they were soooo sparkly! I glued them to a stick and placed them in the centers of each of the table centerpieces.
These pink straws were stinkin' adorable! I die cut the bows, of course out of gold glitter cardstock, assembled each bow, and then glued them to a straw. Champagne glasses were placed at each table setting. We added just a bit of pink cotton candy in the bottom of each glass to hold the straw in place. And the champagne turns pink when poured into the glass...so cute!!
Here are a few photos of the overall table settings. We folded up each of the napkins and then placed the black and white stripe ribbon around the centers to make a bow. I wished the plates had been at the table as I think the napkins would have looked nicer, but it was a buffet. A yummy one I might add.
There was a table set up at the front doors where her guests could sign her wine bottle as they arrived. This wine bottle was huge. I think my brother said it was the size of 8 bottles of wine. They have a name for this size bottle of wine, but I can't remember it. There was also a candy table filled with pink, black, white, and gold candies, but I guess I didn't get a pic. The sign was also cut on my Cameo.
And for my party favorite...the dessert table!!! Gorgeous!! And the desserts...to die for!!! I was on sugar overload the next day! I almost tried one of everything. Seriously, I did! For those of you living in the So Cal area and in need of a cake or desserts, give Fantasy Frosting a call. When my sister in law and I first went for our appointment, we had a cake testing. Seriously, every flavor of cake was TO DIE FOR!!!! Especially the Creme Brulee!!! OMG!!! It was delish!! I think my favorite on this dessert table was the Gooey Butter Bites, almond cake pops, marshmallow creme cake pops, and the Budino dessert shots. I can have more than one favorite, right? And there were more than just pictured that were brought out later; hand pies, tarts, and cupcakes. All so yummy! Now I want something sweet...let's get back to the party decor! My original idea was for the picture frame to be gold but being so short on time, I couldn't find one...So black it was. Again, I researched all over the internet trying to find where I could purchase or rent a backdrop with absolutely no luck. Joann's fabrics here I come...and thankfully with my 60% off coupon for the black and white stripe fabric! Whoo hoo!! I also purchased a photographers back drop frame. I thought it would work great but I didn't want to see the ugly metal frame. So, I thought, why not sew up a three sided panel and then slip it over the top of the frame...like a pillow case. Worked perfectly!! Thankfully, I did have help with sewing the backdrop. My mom came into town for the party just in time to sew it up for me. Thanks mom!!!!! The sign is poster board with a gold glitter border. I cut all the lettering out with my Cameo and glued the letters to the poster board. I placed two small cuts in the top of the back drop so that I could hang the frame with clear heavy twine...the type you use for balloon design. Yes, I have done that too! For the details I strung some gold confetti and small banner garland and then attached all the flowers using pins. This way I could remove them after and use them again.
The night was absolutely beautiful and my sister in law was stunned when she walked through the doors. I think I pulled it off, right!? I do wish I had more time in planning though. There were so many more details I wanted to add but just ran out of time. My next event just might be...Kate Spade themed!!! Thanks for stopping by and having a look. Let me know what you think.
P.S. The above photo is a pic of me, my sister Cheri, and my sister in law is in the middle. Doesn't her dress look so Kate Spade? She was even wearing adorable pink shoes to match all the party decor!
