I know it's been awhile since I have posted. I just returned home from a two week, well needed, vacation in Idaho. The weather was beautiful, in the 90's, so we spent most of our time on the lake and playing in the water. I admit, I didn't want to come home.
There was one day where thunderstorms came through so we decided to go up to Schweitzer Ski resort and go downhill mountain biking. At what age do you start to tell yourself that you are too old to be doing all the activities that your young teenage kids do? I think I have possibly hit that age. Even before the bike ride began I was already sore from wakeboarding, surfing, and waterskiing. Adding downhill mountain biking was sure to make things worse!! But I figured how bad could it be...it was downhill. OH MY GOSH!! It's not easy!! Staying on the bike is quite a challenge. Pretty much it's hang on real tight and don't sit down. It was dusty, rocky, and extremely slippery due to the soft dirt. Of course the older kids were long gone as soon as we left the top of the mountain. So my sister, my dad, and I, were on our own. The youngest one, my niece Abbie, didn't get off the top of the mountain before she decided it was too scary for her and decided not to go along. On my way down I had been thinking how dangerous it would have been to have the younger ones along...mind you, they said they have kids go down all the time...when I rounded a turn and the back tire slid out from under me. The hill was so steep that I couldn't reach the ground quick enough and down I went, face first, into a pile of rocks. Not Good!! All I could think about was how terrible the dirt tasted...never mind the blood gushing from my left temple. I actually thought it was quite funny, so I was laughing...my dad and sister didn't think so. They were just a little freaked out. My sister gave me her extra shirt to put pressure on my cut and down the mountain we continued. I think I was quite the sight when I arrived at the bottom covered in dirt, blood, all scraped up, and looking completely hagared!! First aid cleaned me up and informed me that I needed to stop at the ER down the mountain. I was hoping I wouldn't need to do that...first aid gave me a few extra steri-strips so I was good to go. Nope! I ended up at the ER that night...but NO stitches, they glue you back together now!! Pretty cool!! Good news...I made it on their hospital summer injury board...number 26!!
So now I get asked if I have been in a car accident and the little ones stare at me like I'm a little scary looking. I'm hoping in a week I will be good as new and I'm extremely thankful that all my teeth are still intact!! Would I do it again...ABSOLUTELY!!! It was tons of fun!! I will leave you with the worst picture I have EVER taken, compliments of my nephew who said I needed to remember this moment! Enjoy! Julie
